Vincent Heimburg receives the award in Dortmund.
Vincent Heimburg received an award at WI2026 in Linz for his JMIS publication on value co-creation in generative AI platform ecosystems.

Vincent Heimburg, doctoral candidate at the Chair Digital Transformation, received the Young Researcher Best Paper Award at the 21st International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI2026) at Johannes Kepler University Linz. The award is granted by the association Die Wirtschaftsinformatik e.V. (Die WI) for an outstanding scientific publication by an early-career researcher and carries prize money of 1,000 Euro.

The awarded paper, "Complementor Value Co-Creation in Generative AI Platform Ecosystems", appeared in the Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS). The study examines how complementors in generative AI platform ecosystems co-create value with the platform owner. Two facets of generative AI complicate this value co-creation: open-endedness and inscrutability. The paper identifies four value co-creation mechanisms and distinguishes embedded from stand-alone complementors.

The publication is joint work with Maximilian Schreieck (University of Innsbruck) and Manuel Wiesche (TU Dortmund University). The research was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), and the EXCHANGE programme of the University of Innsbruck. The jury consisted of Prof. Dr. Rainer Alt (Leipzig University), Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar (TU Munich), and Prof. Dr. Jella Pfeiffer (KIT).

Congratulations on this award.
