Publication of a study on digital platforms

In the current study „Learning to be a Platform Owner: How BMW Enhances App Development for Cars“ we investigate the emergence of a digital platform for automotive onboard apps within the BMW Group to gain knowledge about how platform owners can benefit from interaction with application developers to enhance their digital platforms. As basic mechanisms for this we could identify perspective transfer, knowledge transfer and the transfer of artifacts. Our work extends the existing theory on platform creation and provides insights into the learning process of an inexperienced platform owner. Furthermore, our findings reveal valuable recommendations for organizations that have difficulties in setting up digital platforms.
