We attended the Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI) Conference 2026

Fabian Helms presented a paper co-authored with Kay Hönemann and Manuel Wiesche: Hönemann, Kay; Helms, Fabian; and Wiesche, Manuel. (2026). More Prompts, More Problems: A Persuasive Design for Pro-Environmental Behavior in Image Generation.
In this paper, we examine how digital nudges can encourage users of text-to-image systems to adopt a more environmentally conscious approach to generative AI. Given the high resource demands of generative AI systems, the study analyzes, in a scenario-based online experiment with 203 participants, how different persuasive design mechanisms influence usage behavior. The results show that a nudge based on social rejection reduced the number of image generations by 24%, while a fear nudge increased the intention to reduce unnecessary image generations in the future by up to 22%.
We were able to gain many exciting experiences and insights from the presentations, panels, and discussions, as well as make many new and interesting connections.
