Participation in the 34th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) with award

The image shows three men standing side-by-side outdoors on a green lawn on a sunny day, looking directly at the camera. All three are wearing long-sleeved button-down shirts, long trousers, and lanyards with name badges clearly displaying the text "ECIS". The man on the left wears glasses, has a slight beard, and is dressed in a light blue shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes. The man in the middle is smiling and wears a light blue shirt, dark trousers, a brown belt, and brown shoes. The man on the right wears glasses, a white shirt, dark trousers, and black shoes. Behind the men is a circular flower bed with an outer border densely planted with bright pinkish-red flowers. Directly behind the flower bed, large white sculptural letters stand on the grass, though they are partially obscured by the people. The background is dominated by modern buildings featuring striking, undulating white slatted facades that contrast against a clear, bright blue sky. A covered pedestrian walkway is visible in the background on the left, while a dark blue directional signpost stands on the right. In the bottom left corner of the foreground, a small sign is visible showing a red circle with a slash through a dog, indicating that dogs are not permitted. © Vincent Heimburg, TU Dortmund

The professorship Digital Transformation participated in the ECIS 2026 in Milan, Italy and presented three papers.

Vincent Heimburg presented a paper, which is co-authored by Manuel Wiesche. The paper won the Best Complete Research Paper Award - 1st runner-up:
Heimburg, Vincent and Wiesche, Manuel, "Harnessing and Reducing The Generative and Workflow Autonomy Of Generative AI Systems: A Multiple-Case Study". In ECIS 2026 Proceedings https://aisel.aisnet.org/ecis2026/is_adopt/is_adopt/23

Björn Konopka presented a paper, which is co-authored by Jason B. Thatcher and Manuel Wiesche:
Konopka, Björn; Thatcher, Jason B.; and Wiesche, Manuel, "Beyond The Wall Of Text: A Comparative Empirical Study Of Privacy Assurance Mechanisms". In ECIS 2026 Proceedings https://aisel.aisnet.org/ecis2026/security/security/12

Vincent Heimburg presented a paper, which is co-authored by Victorine Verlooy, Florian Staudacher, and Maximilian Schreieck:
Heimburg, Vincent; Verlooy, Victorine; Staudacher, Florian; and Schreieck, Maximilian, "The Gatekeeper’s Gambit: How Platforms Strategically Adapt To Platform Regulation". In ECIS 2026 Proceedings  https://aisel.aisnet.org/ecis2026/is_policy/is_policy/5

The presentations, panels, and discussions provided many valuable experiences and insights, and we were able to establish a number of interesting new contacts.

The image shows six people standing side-by-side on a light wooden stage in front of a long, beige-colored desk. In the background is a bright blue wall with vertical seams, above which is a white panel featuring partially visible logos, including the text "DEGLI STUDI DI MILANO". The image shows a presentation taking place in a bright, modern seminar room or lecture hall. In the foreground, the backs of the heads and shoulders of five audience members are visible as they sit at long white desks, facing forward. At the front of the room, slightly to the right, stands the presenter. He is a man with blonde hair and glasses, wearing a light blue button-down shirt, dark trousers, and a white lanyard with a name badge. He is looking towards the audience and gesturing slightly with his hands. Behind him, a large projection screen hangs from the ceiling, displaying a presentation slide projected by a ceiling-mounted projector visible in the top left of the image. In the top right corner of the slide are the logos for "tu dortmund university" and "dt digital transformation". The slide has a light green heading that reads "Limitations & future research". On the left side of the slide, there are four bullet points discussing future research on self-learning systems, how users deal with GenAI systems, understanding the operational, economic, and safety impacts, and monitoring the advancing technical landscape of workflow autonomy. On the right side of the slide is a light-green bordered box titled "Take-away", which summarizes how providers manage generative autonomy through a portfolio of 20 practices. © Manuel Wiesche, TU Dortmund

The image shows a man giving a presentation in a brightly lit lecture hall. He is standing behind a desk at the front of the room, wearing a long-sleeved white button-down shirt, dark pants, glasses, and a white FFP2 face mask covering his nose and mouth. A light-colored lanyard with a name tag hangs around his neck. On the desk in front of him, there is a black computer monitor, a partially visible laptop, and a bottle of hand sanitizer. In the foreground, empty rows of seating are visible, featuring light wood-colored desks and black chairs. Behind the speaker, a presentation slide is projected onto a large screen on the wall. In the top right corner of the slide, the logos for "tu dortmund university" and "dt digitale transformation" are displayed. The slide features the green heading "Motivation" and illustrates the topic using three side-by-side cartoons. The left illustration shows a frustrated person at a laptop being overwhelmed by legal documents, with the text "Privacy fatigue" written below. The middle picture depicts a person struggling to pull a heavily tangled rope, accompanied by the caption "Dense legal texts, Not standardized". The right illustration shows various animals, including an elephant, a large bird, and a snake, standing together in front of a storefront window that reads "ONE-SIZE FITS ALL STORE". Below this is the text "One-size-fits-all, no interaction". On the far left edge of the image, a small portion of an adjacent projection screen can also be seen. © Manuel Wiesche, TU Dortmund
