In this seminar, students work on a scientific topic of digital transformation. As part of the course, participants carry out a structured literature analysis (Schreieck et al. 2016; Vom Brocke et al. 2009; Webster and Watson 2002) or an empirical analysis. Students should attend this course if they want to learn how to work scientifically and get to know a topic of digital transformation, in particular from the research focus areas of the Chair of Digital Transformation. This seminar should serve as preparation for the Bachelor's thesis.

Learning objectives

After participating in the seminar, students will be able to

  • understand and analyze a current topic of digital transformation
  • independently develop a research topic based on a literature review
  • design, plan and carry out a scientific paper
  • present and defend interim results

Choice of topic

The topics are worked on in groups. The topics are allocated in the first course.
The topics come from the main research areas. Exemplary topics are:

  • Digital working environments (cyberworkforce, IT projects, dealing with artificial intelligence, gig and sharing economy)
  • Digital platform ecosystems (interfaces, network effects, security)
  • Service innovations (use of innovative technologies such as AR/VR, modeling of operational information systems)
